A SCREW TO FIX A HARDWARE PART ON MY GUITAR KIT BODY HAS BROKE WHILE I WAS SCREWING IN THE WOOD, I AM SCREWED?
No, you’re not screwed! Fortunately, there is few ways to remove a screw which as broke and are inside the wood - without its head - of you re guitar kit: 1. In case you have not break too deep your screw within the DiY guitar kit - likely the guitar body - you can use a hammer and a punch to create a straight notch on the head of the screw for a flat screwdriver. Then gently loosen with a large flat screwdriver to extract the screw. Hopefully the screw will go out of your electric guitar kit. 2. This might be not enough to remove a screw from the wood of your kit guitar in which case you can use a screw extractor device. You will need first a drill bit smaller than the screw to made a small hole in the screw. Then put the extractor device in the hole. Hit the extractor with a hammer to make sure it is well inserted. Finally start to turn the extractor anti-clockwise. In case it is not working hit again with a hammer and add some oil to facilitate unscrewing. To build your own guitar and fix the hardware in your guitar body, we advise you to oil slightly the screws to avoid friction. Also use a drill to make a hole before screwing a guitar part.
I WOULD LIKE TO SOLDER MYSELF THE ELECTRONICS OF MY GUITAR KIT AND NOT USE THE PUSH TYPE FEATURE THE GUITAR KIT FABRIC PROPOSE. IS IT POSSIBLE?
Yes, you just need to cut the wire to remove the puh type feature. Then you can solder altogether the electronic parts of your guitar kit: pick-ups, switch, knobs and jack socket. To do so we provide a wiring diagram in the user guide provide with your DiY guitar.
GUITAR KITS SUCH AS EXPLORER, PRS OR ES335 GUITAR KIT USE A SET-IN NECK. CAN I USE SCREWS TO FIX THE NECK ON THE GUITAR BODY INSTEAD OF GLUE AND THEREFORE CONVERT MY GUITAR KIT INTO A BOLT-ON TYPE DIY GUITAR?
Converting a set-in joint electric guitar kit to a bolt-on type DiY guitar is not advised. The main reason is that the neck-body joint will lose some of its strength and can break more easily (and also for design perspective).
Still if you have some experience it is do-able but you will need to get a neck joint cover (which we can provide) and drill your neck and body accordingly. You might also need to trim the screws going to the pick-up cavity.
If you want to handle such thing, feel free to contact us so that we can provide you further support (as specific advice can be provided depending on which guitar kit you want to convert to bolt-on type).
I HAVE RECEIVED MY RICKENBACKER GUITAR KIT AND NOTICE THAT THE DRILLED HOLES TO INSTALL THE BRIDGE ARE NOT PERPENDICULAR WITH THE GUITAR BODY. ONE IS A QUARTER OF AN INCH HIGHER THAN THE OTHER ONE. I GUESS THIS GUITAR KIT IS FAULTY?
No its not! Having the guitar bridge with a slight inclination is perfectly normal and standard to our guitar kits. You can even notice the difference on our guitar kit pictures. You can also see that all our DiY guitar with tune-o-matic bridge has similar inclination.
The reason why we are doing this is to improve the scale length / intonation for each string as they are slightly different by nature. Indeed, the gauge of each strings are different and heavier strings need to be slightly longer than lighter-gauge strings. So, this inclination provides an initial intonation adjustment of the strings. Note that when you will have finished to build your guitar kit and that you move to the guitar set-up you should perform some final adjustment of the intonation and adjust the bridge to get the intonation right for each string, as described in our electric guitar kit user guide.
